Spilsby Light Night was the first Different Light project and was held over 2 nights in March 2019. 16 different lighting installations were set up across the town created mostly by Creative Technician Andy Johnson Smith. Artist Will Lindley was also commissioned to create a piece for the inside of St James’ Church, accompanied by a soundtrack by Henryk Górecki which proved to be a big hit with the public.
Despite torrential rain on the first night, an estimated 1500 people came out over both nights to take part in the event (the equivalent of 50% of the town’s population!) and the feedback and atmosphere were extremely positive overall.
“Really interesting and informative. This was a spectacularly successful community event. We hope it will be repeated next year.”
“Well done – I was there on the Saturday and was shocked when I started driving into the town at the number of people!”
The success of this event led to the Different Light Collective submitting a second bid to the Arts Council for a second larger event in 2020 which was successful.
