HOPE & LIGHT – Community Christmas Project
for East Lindsey in Lincolnshire
Hope & Light was a community project for Christmas 2020 in 3 parts that could be seen across East Lindsey in the ‘Vital & Viable’ towns of Alford, Horncastle, Louth & Spilsby.
Part One was a series of 4 community made projections shown in each of the 4 towns from 3pm to 9pm every night.
Part Two was a series of accompanying shopfront displays in each town designed & created by Lumo Workshop
Part Three was a chance to collect a tag and write a hope or a wish for 2021 and leave it in a designated place in each town
All the elements of Hope & Light ran throughout December until the beginning of January.

Background Information
Hope & Light was commissioned by ELDC in response to the effect the pandemic is having on the high streets of East Lindsey. The Different Light Collective (the guys behind Spilsby Light Night) delivered this special creative project across the four ‘Vital & Viable’ Towns of Spilsby, Alford, Horncastle & Louth.
The project began with anyone across the district encouraged to download one of four simple Christmas templates which were allocated to each of the 4 towns like this:
SPILSBY – CRACKERS
LOUTH – CHRISTMAS TREES
HORNCASTLE – SNOWFLAKES
ALFORD – STARS
People were encouraged to do whichever template / town they liked and to send them to us by the start of November. We were delighted and amazed by the response with over one thousand people sending in their own unique designs!
During November, the Different Light Team animated the designs into 4 simple short films and from the beginning of December, 4 projectors were placed in each of the 4 towns to show the community films, linked together by short animations by professional digital video artist Barret Hodgson, together with safety announcements and festive messages, to be shown on a constant loop from dusk until 9pm in each of the market towns right through to New Year’s Day.
Together with the 4 shopfront displays designed and created by Lumo Workshop and the Hopes & Wishes tags, the Different Light Team hopes that very much that the project raised a few spirits and brought a few smiles to people living in East Lindsey and we’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone who got involved and sent their designs to us – we hope you liked them!
